News from World Music Radio

WMR has now added another short wave frequency:

Besides 5840 kHz WMR is now broadcasting on 15805 kHz. Power is 200 W, the aerial is a very simple dipole and propagation on this frequency is somewhat irregular.

Around midday good reception in parts of Southern Europe, and evenings reception is possible in Ireland, parts of England, France, Scotland and Iceland.

Enjoy  🙂

Global HF Weekend, November 2-4, 2018

The Global HF Weekend is coming up November 2-4, 2018. The GHFW occurs the 1st weekend in April and the first weekend in November every year. The idea is that it's a set time for listeners and stations to try testing to different parts of the world. Over the past few years, the high frequencies have not been great for propagation between Europe and North America, but stations have still been able to reach other continents by operating at other times, etc.

An interesting twist this year is that some hardcore DXers will be listening over the weekend from Prince Edward Island. These guys primarily DX on medium wave and their logs are phenomenal. They literally logged at least 30 countries on medium wave. They also actually heard a number of pirates on the band, including Radio Calypso, Monte Carlo Radio, Bluebird Radio, Radio Doctor Einstein, Witte Tornado and the Lady, and Polkaman. I wonder how many pirates from Europe or North America will test anywhere from 1611 up to about 1720 or 1730 kHz for this DXpedition? Whoever does so has a great chance to be heard in PEI, Canada.

Of course, others will be listening on shortwave, and I'm looking forward to hearing who might turn up. I plan to be updating this blog with information about the weekend and also about Halloween coming up. If any stations send schedules to me, I'll post them here without station names for security reasons.

A. Yoder

Thanks also to André (Cool AM) for the GHFW promo:

Peace Party & SAQ Transmission on October 24

A roaring machine, morse code and Irish folk music – celebrate the UN Day of October 24 at the World Heritage Site Grimeton!

Man’s quest for contacts and faster relationships between each other is tireless. A proof of this are the many attempts made to put a telegraph cable on the bottom of the Atlantic before the seemingly impossible project was finally landed – the connection between Europe and America was established, from Ireland to Newfoundland, and opened for telegram traffic in August 1866 .

We celebrate this great event in international relations by sending out a peace message to the world with the long-wave transmitter SAQ and then a concert in the Irish folk spirit with the Varberg band Green Hill.

Evening program

18.00 The world heritage opens
18.30 (16.30 UTC) all visitors are greeted welcome  and the long wave transmitter SAQ is started
19.00 (17.00 UTC) a peace message is sent out*
19.15 (ca) concert with Green Hill

Free entrance. Arrive in time as there are limited amount of seats.
Welcome!

The transmission is on 17,2 kHz CW.

You can also watch a live video stream of the transmission on www.alexander.n.se.

No QSL-cards will be given this time and no List of Reports will be constructed but we accept shorter Listeners Report to e-mail info/a/alexander.n.se.

*The world heritage site Grimeton is a living cultural heritage. All transmissions with the long-wave transmitter SAQ are therefore preliminary and may be cancelled with short notice.
