On Christmas morning, Friday December 24th 2021, SAQ Grimeton is scheduled* to be on the air, to send out the traditional Christmas message to the whole world, using the 97 year old 200kW Alexanderson alternator on 17.2 kHz CW.

Visitors are most welcome to World Heritage Grimeton Radio Station on Christmas morning, Dec 24th. The doors to the transmitter hall will open at 08:00 CET. The entrance is free of charge and we will offer free coffee with Christmas buns and ginger snaps. We ask all visitors to observe all applicable pandemic rules.

SAQ Grimeton UN-Day Transmission on October 24th, 2021

 On United Nations Day, Sunday October 24th, 2021, the unique and historical Alexanderson alternator in Grimeton Sweden, with call sign SAQ, is scheduled to send out a message to the whole world on 17.2 kHz CW.

Alexanderson Day 2021

 The annual transmission event on the Alexanderson Day with the Alexanderson Alternator from 1924 on VLF 17.2 kHz CW with the call sign SAQ, is scheduled for Sunday, July 4th, 2021.

The Alexander Grimeton Association are planning to carry out two broadcasts to the world from the old Alexanderson alternator SAQ. Only required staff will be in place, due to the ongoing pandemic.

Transmission schedule:

1. Startup and tuning at 10:30 CET (08:30 UTC) with a transmission of a message at 11:00 CET (09:00 UTC)

2. Startup and tuning at 13:30 CET (11:30 UTC) with a transmission of a message at 14:00 CET (12:00 UTC)

Cancelled SAQ Christmas Transmission

 As a result of the prevailing circumstances in our society, we unfortunately have to inform that the traditional Christmas Eve transmission with SAQ is cancelled.

We find it sad to have to make this decision, but see it as a necessary measure to protect everyone involved. While waiting for the next transmission with SAQ, there are several YouTube clips from previous transmissions that you can watch.

We truly regret this and hope for your understanding of the situation and continued support for the business. We hope that “our old lady” can soon be heard on the air again!

 On United Nations Day, October 24th, 2020, the SAQ transmitter in Grimeton will again send out a message to the whole world on 17.2 kHz CW.

Christmas Eve transmission from SAQ Grimeton, December 24, 2019

In the morning of Christmas Eve, December 24, we will try to start the old Alexanderson 200 kW transmitter, from 1924 and send out a Christmas message on VLF 17.2 kHz CW. The transmitter will be tuned up from around 08:30 (07:30 UTC) and a message* will be transmitted at 09:00 (08:00 UTC).

Guests are welcome to attend the transmission at the radio station in Grimeton from 08:00 local time. The Alexander association will arrange Coffee and Christmas cookies, free of charge. No entrance fee.

For those of you who can not attend, we will broadcast the event live from Grimeton, Sweden on our YouTube Channel.

SAQ transmission on UN-Day, October 24th

Join us in celebrating UN Day on October 24 at the World Heritage Grimeton!

This year, hundred years have passed since equal voting rights for men and women were introduced in Sweden. It is a human right that everyone can make their voices heard in fundamental issues and is prerequisite for creating a democratic and peaceful society. On this occasion, we want to raise the power of women in peace issues. Therefore the organization Acting 4 Change, that works with the project womens empowerment in Casamance in Senegal, is invited to talk about women’s participation in the peace process from a Senegalese perspective.

During the evening, a peace message is sent with the old long-wave transmitter SAQ and finally we listen to Senegalese rhythms performed by Kilimandiarou.

The event is held in the radio station building with free admission. Arrive at the event on time, as there is a limited number of seats.

Peace Party & SAQ Transmission on October 24

 A roaring machine, morse code and Irish folk music – celebrate the UN Day of October 24 at the World Heritage Site Grimeton!

Man’s quest for contacts and faster relationships between each other is tireless. A proof of this are the many attempts made to put a telegraph cable on the bottom of the Atlantic before the seemingly impossible project was finally landed – the connection between Europe and America was established, from Ireland to Newfoundland, and opened for telegram traffic in August 1866 .

We celebrate this great event in international relations by sending out a peace message to the world with the long-wave transmitter SAQ and then a concert in the Irish folk spirit with the Varberg band Green Hill.

18.30 (16.30 UTC) all visitors are greeted welcome  and the long wave transmitter SAQ is started

SAQ on Air on May 1^st

 World Heritage Grimeton Radio Station participates in the ERIH event WORK it OUT – Industrial culture, on May 1 and as part of the event we plan for the first SAQ transmission since 2016.

The transmitter start-up will begin at 11.30 (9.30 UTC) and the transmission will begin on 17,2 kHz CW at 12.00 (10.00 UTC). You can also watch a live video stream of the event on www.alexander.n.se.

We sincerely hope that all the SAQ transmission on 17,2 kHz will go as planned, but as always there is a reservation that the transmission is cancelled with short notice.
