Radio Igloo will be on air again

On Monday morning February 7th at 01.00-02.00 UTC on 5950 5010 kHz.

Radio Igloo will be on air again from WRMI´s 100 kW-transmitter in Florida.
Thanks to the Texas Radio Shortwave Team, we have the opportunity to reach the whole world with our program.
The program is a mix of music by Swedish artists and DX-information.
Also this time it is a co-production with the Westcoast DX-Club in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Maybe not the best time of day for listeners in Europe, so set your alarm-clocks.

Evening reception of Radio 208 on MW in Kyiv

The powerful transmitter of Radio Riyadh in Ras al-Khair is off now, and it is possible to receive Radio 208 on 1440 kHz without significant co-channel QRM here. The signal is usually quite weak at local evenings, with rare fade-ins, when I can copy audio. I guess, the reception could even be much better at local mornings, however, unfortunately, I have no opportunity to check the frequency at morning time in some QRM-free place now.

Here is example of reception of the station on 1440 kHz on 24th of January 2022 at about 16.23 UTC during walk in park with my Degen DE-1103. One can hear Parisienne Walkways by Phil Lynott and Gary Moore:

Output power of the transmitter on 1440 kHz is 300 W, as stated on the eQSL received shortly. Many thanks to Stig Hartvig Nielsen!

RX: Degen DE-1103

Many countries of the African continent have left medium wave band last years. It is obvious from comparison of the various editions of WRTH. Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria and Sudan are still keeping well-developed MW networks, however number of MW transmitters in Nigeria has dropped drastically. Sad news from Germany

According to some messages on DX sites dedicated to free radio scene and social media, Armin Mothes, operator of Radio Gloria International has passed away.

I remember the shows of Radio Gloria International relayed via MV Baltic Radio and Radio 700 / Shortwaveservice till year 2018. These shows were always a source of free radio spirit for me, despite official status of the relay facilities in early 2010's. And I was always glad to hear nice oldies every 4th Sunday of the month. Thank you for the great musical broadcasts and rest in peace, Armin.

My condolences to relatives and friends.
