QSL-card from Radio Liechtenstein

 Surprise in my post box: QSL-card and personal letter from Radio L (Radio Liechtenstein) for reception on the frequency of 89.2 MHz during sporadic propagation from the Western Europe. Many thanks to the personnel of the station!

In contrast to my "epopee" with Radio San Marino, that was really rare case of a pure luck: 1) the station faded-in for only ~30 seconds right when ID was aired; 2) it is a luck that it broke through other much stronger co-channel stations then; 3) it is another luck, that I happened to hear and didn't skip this signal on the crowded SDR recording of that day's Es hop.

SAQ Grimeton Christmas morning Transmission on December 24th, 2021

 What is better than starting Christmas morning with a transmission from SAQ Grimeton?

On Christmas morning, Friday December 24th 2021, SAQ Grimeton is scheduled* to be on the air, to send out the traditional Christmas message to the whole world, using the 97 year old 200kW Alexanderson alternator on 17.2 kHz CW. 

Program and transmission schedule:

08:00 CET (07:00 UTC: The transmitter hall at World Heritage Grimeton is opened for visitors.

Transmission & YouTube Live stream:

08:25 CET (07:25 UTC): Live stream on YouTube begins.

08:30 CET (07:30 UTC): Startup and tuning of the Alexanderson Alternator SAQ.

09:00 CET (08:00 UTC): Transmission of a message from SAQ.

We are planning to carry our some test transmissions on December 23rd, approximately between 13:00 CET (12:00 UTC) and 16:00 CET (13:00 UTC). SAQ will be on the air shorter periods of time during this interval, when we will be carrying out some tests and measurements. Your comments are welcome to info/a/alexander.n.se.

Visitors are most welcome to World Heritage Grimeton Radio Station on Christmas morning, Dec 24th. The doors to the transmitter hall will open at 08:00 CET. The entrance is free of charge and we will offer free coffee with Christmas buns and ginger snaps. We ask all visitors to observe all applicable pandemic rules.

Indy Radio, new Spanish-language station on SW

I just copied IDs of the new Spanish-language station on 6931 kHz at last. I think, the real ID is Indie Indy Radio, I can clearly hear "Sintonizas Indie Indy Radio" on the recording made just now on one of the European SDRs.

The station is playing Spanish-language alternative rock and pop music and was first received directly here on 28th of November 2021 from 00.20 till 01.25 UTC.

FRS Holland December broadcast

 Dear FRS Friends,

Sunday December 19th FRS-Holland will be on air with its annual festive December /end of the year broadcast. Details about times and frequencies will follow in the course of December.

That day we will be broadcasting varied shows with great music, radio related programme items, your November mail and…...your participation !

 Thanks to Alessandro Palumbo for confirmation of reception of Italian station RTL 102.5 on the frequency of 91.8 MHz via transmitter in Lido degli Estensi in July this year.

Doctor Tim passed away

Werner, well known in free radio community as Doctor Tim, has passed away on Sunday at the age of 72. This sad news came yesterday in Pirate Radio Chat and was confirmed on SWCH website and Shortwave DX blog.

I will remember Dr. Tim as one of the most active radio enthusiasts. It is known, that he was dedicated broadcaster, who launched many DXers-friendly radio stations with various musical styles and ethnic formats, keeping free radio scene alive. The signal of all the stations was not strong at my location, however that was always great and exciting to hear his shows on 48 meter band and receive QSL-confirmations (every time with a new design!) after sending reports.

Let's not forget, that Dr. Tim was also passionate German DXer, publishing Pirate News Bulletins with own loggings and administrating his website for many years to help other DXers with identification of received signals, finding contact email addresses of operators as well as promoting new free radio stations and shows.

Werner was one of the significant persons of the golden era of shortwave free radio, and this era is slowly passing away together with such enthusiasts like him. And we will probably not hear Radio Anonymous, Radio Bella Italia, Radio BZN, Radio Carneval, Clinic Radio, Radio Corona, Radio Disco Hell, Radio Dr. Juice, Radio Dr. Tim, Radio Dummyload, Radio Easterbunny, EM Radio, Green Frog Radio, Halloween Radio, Radio Heidi, Radio Heijntje, Radio Illegal, Radio Isabella, Radio Jingle Bells, Radio Jodelpiraat, Radio Lesbos, Radio Lockdown, Love Parade Radio, March Music Radio, Radio Mousjager, Radio Olympia, Radio Polkawelle, Rammstein Radio, Reggae Radio, Radio Republica da Banana, Shortwave Pirate, Radio Sofa King, Radio Southsea Melody, Radiostancia Russian Hooligans, Radio 29, Radio Toyota, Trance AM, Transatlantic Broadcast, Radio UNID, Unknown Radio, Radio Watt & Lumen, Werner's Schlagerwelt, Radio The White Man, Wild West FM, World Cup Radio, Radio Zendpiraat and relays of some other stations anymore. Rest in peace, Werner.
